  1. Gifu University Library System
  2. Gifu University Library plays an important role in our university, providing faculty members and students with a large collection of books, periodicals, and other materials from inside and outside the country for their research activities.

The history of Gifu University Library began with the founding of Gifu University in May 1949. Today the Library consists of two divisions: the Central Library and the Medical Library. These two libraries are located in the main campus in Yanagido. The former was reorganized in July 1984 by annexing two branch libraries. The latter, established in April 1965 for the School of Medicine, was initially located in the Tsukasa campus. In June 2006, the Medical Library was moved to Yanagido.

One of the main features of Gifu University Library is a division-wide centralized management system organized and administrated under the Chief Librarian of the Library.

Gifu University Library has adopted the "open-stack" system, which enables faculty members and students to browse freely among the book stacks.

To facilitate various services, Gifu University Library has automated almost every library function including acquisitions, cataloging, circulation, payments, bibliographic data retrieval, and information retrieval.

The collection of Gifu University Library already exceeds more than 890,000 volumes, to which about 8,000 volumes are added annually. This collection consists of over 600,000 volumes of Japanese books and 290,000 volumes of foreign books, including 17,000 periodicals.
